The Queen's Garden Audio recording by Brenda Aoki herself is slightly different then the written version. This is a bit confusing because it changes our way of seeing the play and changes the way the play is brought to the reader/ listener. There is also background music which is vital for any sort of production because it can really define a piece and help set the mood for the audience. The music can bring a lot of light into what is happening or about to happen and what our characters are feeling/ experiencing. I liked the audio recording because when reading the play it is hard to remember that it is a one woman play. We have the different characters and they all speak and act so differently it is difficult to internalize them as one individual playing them all. When we have the author herself playing them we can hear her reading their voices in the way that she knew them as in her own head. She is able to paint a picture of the accents for each of the characters and with this sounds we are able to visualize what these characters were like. I think she author did a fabulous job at making an obvious distinction between each character. I felt like I was involve din the play and could almost reach out and feel Kali's surf board. Feel the waves. Feel the concrete land that they called home. This is a precious and few and far between look into the artists mind herself. Since it is a one woman play it only seems right that she would be the one to do that. If I were to critique anything it would just be that some of the wording has been changed. Even if it seems more appropriate to say some other words then the ones written I think it is important to stick to the original. Overall, I liked the artists personal rendition of it because that was what she visualized and heard whens he wrote it which makes it more of a personal experience.
